Do you believe in unicorns?

I have been splashing about with my watercolors. I do so love unicorns so I created this magical rainbow creature with plenty of drips and sploshes and yes of course I go it all over my clothes! I believe unicorns exist....and hope to meet one one day!

Unicorn Splash prints can be bought in my Etsy shop.

I also created this Father's Day card available here....I wonder if there are any little girls who actually love daddy more than unicorns? If so this is the card for them.

Whatever you do....keep believing in unicorns, they are the symbol of joy and have a magical ability we all have to transform our lives!

Who's gonna win the Eurovision?

You remember how they had that octopus who predicted who would win the World Cup?  Well there's a new double act in town who can predict with the best.

Well you know how the Eurovision Song Contest is on this weekend?? Well I consulted my two piggies who listened to all the entries together.

The Music Feels Better with You

And after much deliberation they have predicted

ITALY!!!

I must say I agree with them. Italy's song is hard to beat. It even has a dancing gorilla.

Who do you think should win the Eurovision? And I understand that there are people who have no interest in it but I still get excited about it.

Splashing Hippo

Like many people I have been captivated by Fiona, a preemie hippo born at Cincinnati Zoo who is too adorable for words. I thought I'd do a painting of her splashing about. She is quite the diva.

You can buy prints of FIONA over at my Etsy Store..

Does Coffee Improve Memory?

Hello Peeps!

I have been busy painting this adorable little bunny which will be available printed on some products over at Bohemian Coffee Club in a few weeks.

I met a woman at the gym today who I have known on and off for sixteen years. That was at 9.30. We talked a bit about how she was determined to lose 15 lb pounds and I wished her the best of luck. Then I went swimming. I went up and down for an hour and tried to remember what this woman was called.

It was on the tip of my tongue. I knew her name started with N or maybe M. Then there was a bit of drama I think a woman fainted or twisted her leg and was lying at the side of the pool. Then I trod water while I watched the paramedics come and take this woman to hospital in the ambulance.

Then I swam a bit more and tried to remember my friend's name. Nada. Nothing.

Then I went home and ate some friend mushrooms.

It is now 1.20 and I have just remembered this woman's name! It does start with N. Nicola. I think it was the grease in the friend mushrooms that kick started the old grey matter. I am 46. Honestly I didn't think my brain was going to pack up this early in the game. I am wondering what will exercise my brain?

I have heard coffee improves your memory. Is that true? I must say I do love the stuff and my memory is shot to pieces so who knows? I also did a coffee art piece called COFFEE SPLASH which describes my feelings about the invigorating power of Java.

You can buy prints of COFFEE SPLASH over at CURIOOS.

Gone to the dogs

Hi guys!

I've had a busy week of doing dawg portraits. Here's an adorable great dane I did.....first I messed around with masking fluid. Don't you just love pulling up masking fluid? It's so therapeutic!

This is another spotted dane I did in watercolor and acrylic inks.

Splash Bunny

Bunny Splash - watercolors, inks

Even thought we've had the heavens open and dump a ton of snow on us I've had a fun week splashing away with watercolors and inks. I created Splash Bunny first and then decided to try drip painting. Here's a little video of the process:

Does the Easter Bunny Exist?

Benji and Barney, Rabbit Pals by Emma Kaufmann, watercolor and inks

As soon as I saw Lola Robert's photo of her rabbits Benji and Barney I knew I had to paint them. They are too cute for words! She lets people paint pictures from her photos through a site called Photos for Artists so do check out more of her work as I can't post it here.

I ended up doing a bright splashy painting in watercolor and inks. Don't you just love it?

I have always loved the Easter Bunny and all the work he has done for me over the years painting Easter Eggs with his network of Bunny pals underground and then somehow spreading his colorful bounty all over the world come Easter.

Honestly I believed in the Easter Bunny way longer than maybe I should have...I'm thinking maybe until I was thirteen. That's because every Easter Sunday, when I lived in London with my mother I would walk or ride on my bike to Regent's Park. Sometimes with my mum, sometimes on my own.

And I would look behind the trees and I would find Easter Eggs.

It didn't matter which part of the park I went I would find Easter Eggs. For a long time I didn't even think that my mother might have put them there but even if she had did she really get up at the crack of dawn to hide them all over the park?

It doesn't seem likely. It seems like Easter Magic.

That's why I believed in the Easter Bunny for so long. In some ways I still believe in the Easter Bunny. Because if you really believe with all your might then sometimes you might find a wonderful choccy Easter egg in the grass like my guinea pig Marshmallow did last year.

So what do you think, should you let kids believe in fanciful notions like the Easter Bunny as long as possible or give them a cold dose of reality before they reach puberty?

Oodles of Poodles

Oodles of Poodles, pastel by Emma Kaufmann

I've been in something of a pastelly, summery type of mood what with our balmy weather so I did this little collection of pastel poodles. They are awfully elegant and look like the type of pooches Audrey Hepburn might have had in Breakfast at Tiffany's and she might have sat in a fancy restaurant and waved her long cigarette lighter at the waiter and demanded they be given a pillow to sit on and a warm bowl of milk.

Then I also got carried away painting a giant intergalactic cupcake whizzing around the sky. It was great fun to paint. Here's a little video of it:

Here's the finished painting using washes of watercolor and acrylic inks on paper. I had fun using my new white fineliner pen to create all the little stars in the background. I was using the Sakura Pentouch Paint markers and found they did a wonderful job even over a dark background. I do get so excited when I use new products for the first time. Don't you?

Also I would be grateful if you could vote for my funny farting unicorn Valentine's day greeting card in a competition  Please vote for it by clicking HERE and I will be eternally grateful.

Bloomin Beard

We are having unexpectedly balmy weather here in Baltimore. Some flowers are even popping their heads sheepishly out of the ground and deciding to bloom. All this lovely weather made my brain think of shoots and leaves and while I was thinking of an illustration for theme of Botanical for the 52-Week Illustration Challenge this flowery bearded man popped into my head and I thought, why not? He does look like every hipster in skinny jeans around but he also has that Pan Greek mythology look too.

Flamingo Kiss

Inspired by Valentine's Day I painted these sassy Flamingos doing a dance that might just be the Electric Boogaloo while gearing up to give eachother a smackaroo. Have a smashing Valentine's Day whatever you get up to.

Then I was inspired by the experiences of a London friend...... he has a wild fox in the neighborhood who sometimes sleeps on his sofa... can't help wondering.... what's the fox's story and why isn't he scared of humans? So I drew this illustration.
