Spring Freebie!

I am part of an amazing group of illustrators from the Facebook group Erfolgreich.Illustrator. Nearly 120 of us submitted designs to the theme of spring which were made into card format which is now available as a freebie to download. It is a matching game that is so much fun! Little kids will also find the designs super cute.

My guinea pig cards are on page 23 beside some amorous ladybugs: DOWNLOAD HERE

Gone to the dogs

Hi guys!

I've had a busy week of doing dawg portraits. Here's an adorable great dane I did.....first I messed around with masking fluid. Don't you just love pulling up masking fluid? It's so therapeutic!

This is another spotted dane I did in watercolor and acrylic inks.

Splash Bunny

Bunny Splash - watercolors, inks

Even thought we've had the heavens open and dump a ton of snow on us I've had a fun week splashing away with watercolors and inks. I created Splash Bunny first and then decided to try drip painting. Here's a little video of the process:

Does the Easter Bunny Exist?

Benji and Barney, Rabbit Pals by Emma Kaufmann, watercolor and inks

As soon as I saw Lola Robert's photo of her rabbits Benji and Barney I knew I had to paint them. They are too cute for words! She lets people paint pictures from her photos through a site called Photos for Artists so do check out more of her work as I can't post it here.

I ended up doing a bright splashy painting in watercolor and inks. Don't you just love it?

I have always loved the Easter Bunny and all the work he has done for me over the years painting Easter Eggs with his network of Bunny pals underground and then somehow spreading his colorful bounty all over the world come Easter.

Honestly I believed in the Easter Bunny way longer than maybe I should have...I'm thinking maybe until I was thirteen. That's because every Easter Sunday, when I lived in London with my mother I would walk or ride on my bike to Regent's Park. Sometimes with my mum, sometimes on my own.

And I would look behind the trees and I would find Easter Eggs.

It didn't matter which part of the park I went I would find Easter Eggs. For a long time I didn't even think that my mother might have put them there but even if she had did she really get up at the crack of dawn to hide them all over the park?

It doesn't seem likely. It seems like Easter Magic.

That's why I believed in the Easter Bunny for so long. In some ways I still believe in the Easter Bunny. Because if you really believe with all your might then sometimes you might find a wonderful choccy Easter egg in the grass like my guinea pig Marshmallow did last year.

So what do you think, should you let kids believe in fanciful notions like the Easter Bunny as long as possible or give them a cold dose of reality before they reach puberty?

Oodles of Poodles

Oodles of Poodles, pastel by Emma Kaufmann

I've been in something of a pastelly, summery type of mood what with our balmy weather so I did this little collection of pastel poodles. They are awfully elegant and look like the type of pooches Audrey Hepburn might have had in Breakfast at Tiffany's and she might have sat in a fancy restaurant and waved her long cigarette lighter at the waiter and demanded they be given a pillow to sit on and a warm bowl of milk.

Then I also got carried away painting a giant intergalactic cupcake whizzing around the sky. It was great fun to paint. Here's a little video of it:

Here's the finished painting using washes of watercolor and acrylic inks on paper. I had fun using my new white fineliner pen to create all the little stars in the background. I was using the Sakura Pentouch Paint markers and found they did a wonderful job even over a dark background. I do get so excited when I use new products for the first time. Don't you?

Also I would be grateful if you could vote for my funny farting unicorn Valentine's day greeting card in a competition  Please vote for it by clicking HERE and I will be eternally grateful.
