Snowmageddon!

Flamingo Tango, 18 x 24 inches, acrylic inks

Even though we here in Baltimore are bracing ourselves for 'one of the worst blizzards ever' that is going to hit us today, I still felt compelled to paint a bright, tropical painting that I call Flamingo Tango. It was one of those things where I could have added a lot more detail but I just liked it like this so I left the flamingo's to it.

Things are absolutely crazy. There the shelves have been picked clean in the stores.

I am tucked up as snug as a bug in rug baking cookies and garlic bread. I don't plan on going anywhere. I have enough junk food stockpiled to last the winter! We are predicted to get 18 - 24 inches of snow over the weekend.

I don't really mind the snow that much. The internet usually goes down and all the neighbors are out in the street doing wierd things like talking to each other!! It is a bonding experience and since we don't have a snow blower we will probably need to borrow one from someone at some point. This was me in Snowmaggeddon 2010 (some people have pointed out that while I am busy posing others are slaving away digging up snow) - what can I say I'm more of a poseur than a shoveller!!

UPDATE SATURDAY MORNING

Feeling a bit claustrophic. Have been eating a lot of garlic bread. Watching my neighbor and his snowblower. Only 24 hours to go.

You can see Flamingo Tango in my Etsy shop and prints are also available.

Ch-ch-ch-changes

What a sad week, what with the death of David Bowie. I actually had a dream about David Bowie the night before he died so maybe I am a psychic. Not sure. I actually saw him on the cover of a music magazine a week before then and I remember thinking 'God he looks terrible.' Maybe he looked bad because he was suffering from cancer which he hadn't told anyone about. Anyway it was really bad to hear about the passing of such an amazing character.

I was a Bowie fan from about age 13. I loved everything about him. The fact that he was so wierd and so cool at the same time made him irresistible. I even saw him at his Glass Spider tour in 1987 at the massive Wembley Stadium in London but to be honest that was utter chaos. My friend and I were standing near the front looking up at Bowie dressed as a giant spider....very strange.....floating above us in a giant web. Anyway there was a massive surge of fans behind us, we were thrown forward and I lost my shoes in the mud. We got crushed, some people fainted....it was just really insane so I don't really remember anything about that incident just losing my shoes and fainting girls being pulled out of the crowds.

Did you ever see Bowie live? What was it like?

To be honest 69 is not really that young an age to go and he packed a lot into it. What a chameleon. We're none of us as young as we used to be. I'm afraid I have become very absent minded these days. I looked for my car for half an hour in the car park yesterday - and my car is YELLOW. I also recently threw my daughter's retainer in the trash and later had to try and find it (nice). But mainly I am to be found wandering about the house with two pairs of reading glasses on my head asking my kids 'Has anyone seen my glasses?'

What's your memory like these days?

So it was with some relief that I have learnt that the cure to Alzheimers and Dementia is to quaff champagne. Yes its an actual scientific study that says three glasses of champagne a day will do the trick. So let's all raise our glasses and drink champagne to improve our memory.

I'll leave you with my latest creation, Zebra Splash, painted with acrylic inks. You can buy prints etc in my Redbubble shop.

Let's embrace the ch-ch-changes ....it is sad about David Bowie but I'm sure wherever he is now he is having a fabulous time .....

Happy Fabulous New Year!!

How the mighty have fallen eh? While my kids were at a New Year's Eve Party I gave in to middle age and dozed on the sofa last night. Here's a pic of me:

I watched CNN with Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper. Kathy Griffin was rolling around nude at the side of a pool doing the ice bucket challenge. Then she was just wearing a bra in Times Square. It was all a bit sad and desperate for attention. I thought of all the people crammed into Times Square for hours trying to get on TV. What happens when they have to go to the bathroom? It's probably best not to think about it!

Suffice to say New  Year's Eve passed me by this year. I had been at the National Gallery of Art in DC all day which can be pretty exhausting for an old fart like me.

Christmas Tree and the Capitol

I went with a friend who wanted to see all the Medieval, Renaissance and Mannerism paintings. My favorite was this El Greco. Absolutely amazing! Can you believe this was painted in 1610??

The Laoco├Ân by El Greco 1610-1614

2015 has been a hectic year that has just flown past. I have been doing a ton of pet portraits. Here's my latest one of a golden retriever:

Wishing all my friends a Happy New Year! Remember you are fabulous dahling!!

How did you spend New Year's Eve?
