Lazy Hazy Days of Summer

I've had a busy two weeks entertaining my young 2 year old guest who had me running around like a headless chicken. My daughters did adore having him though, giving him baths and feeding him and taking him swimming so it was quite fun in the end. But don't toddlers have a lot of energy? I feel like someone should invent a machine to tap some of their energy and generate electricity.

So now I am putting my feet up as the lad and his family has gone back to Britain. Only to hear the news about Brexit ....so devastating. Even though I have been here for sixteen years I still feel very sad about this especially as everyone was predicting Britain would stay in the EU.

Haven't had much time to paint what with trying to watch the lad. Every time I turned around he had dumped something else in the guinea pig's cage....potatoes, pencil shavings, washing up sponges ....I guess he thinks the piggie is a human garbage disposal!! Bless his cotton socks.

I did manage to do a quick painting of an owl though. But right now I just need to drown my sorrows with a Pimms in the garden

Happy Friday everyone!

Rockin with the Owls!

Advertised as: the ultimate romantic gift to share on the sofa with your Valentine –
the new Two Cosy snuggie combines the comfort of a blanket and the convenience of four sleeves!

Generally, come autumn, and that nip comes into the air, you will find me curled up on my couch with a good book, a cup of cocoa and my trusty guinea pig for company (although I would probably do better with a fat ginger cat companion, but alas I am allergic). I admit I have almost been tempted by the Snuggie apart from the fact they look a bit sweaty and claustrophobic (has anyone tried one? What are they like?) and also signals a bit that you have traded style for comfort and have decided to give up on shaving your legs to live inside a massive fleecy blanket. I mean come on, could anyone ever find a two cosy Snuggie romantic??

But I digress. Anyway, last weekend I was pulled out of my apathetic couch based existence, firstly when I dolled myself up to be a devil woman at a Halloween party. And secondly when I attended a rip-roaring performance of the Electric Pharaoh by the Baltimore Rock Opera Society.

Whoah! To say this performance was raucous would be an understatement. There was enough energy to light up an electric grid. The audience shouted encouragement and everyone was buzzing. They are now performing in DC and Philly so get a ticket if you get a chance!

The day after, filled with the energy generated by this singing and dancing troupe I was inspired to paint these rockin owls. They are bad boys ...or possibly girls ....who know how to rock an audience don't you think?

The Rockin Owls- watercolor & colored markers

The Owls really know how to screech their way to fame. Some feathers were really flying that night. These guys are Trouble with a capital T. At that gig they even bit the head off a mouse.

Available as a print from Redbubble here.

Murdock the Blind Cat

Hi Folks!

I am having a wonderful week. I did a portrait of a lovely blind cat called Murdock. Murdock is a real character and I found him on facebook where he has a page. He had a chronic infection in both eyes that had caused them to rupture. He was adopted by a Vetinary Technician who took him home who says "I didn't plan on keeping him while I was fostering him, but we went through so much and we were very attached to each other by the time he was finally fully recovered. He was really sick for a long time and almost didn't survive his first surgery. He had to have a blood transfusion and was hospitalized in an oxygen chamber.

Even while going through his trials, Magical Murdock has been a very loving and happy kitten. His positive attitude and sweet disposition steal the hearts of many. He continues to thrive and doesn't let his disability slow him down. He's a true inspiration, not to mention the most amazing, handsome cat I've ever known!"

He is a bit of a star and you can learn more about him here and vote for him over at Modern Cat Magazine. I hope Murdock is paw-sitively beaming about his paw-trait.

All right all right enough with the cat puns....

Owl in the Snow, watercolor, 12 x 18"

Brrr we are at 13 degrees and when I went outside my face froze so I am staying inside. I hope the animals are okay - the squirrels and owls and bunnies. I hope they're all snuggled together having a party in some hollow tree! Here's my latest pic 'Owl in the Snow' which can be bought as a print over at Redbubble.

And here's some tips to help the birds in your neighborhood survive the winter.

Stay warm!
